Many would consider the past few years a challenging time for the automotive industry and other manufacturing businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire. However for many businesses the uncertainty of Brexit and preparations to leave the EU have not hindered their plans to create new jobs. Looking at some of the Coventry and Warwickshire’s biggest employers, we consider the job opportunities that might be available in 2020.


Jaguar Land Rover had a tough 2019, announcing it was cutting 4,500 jobs and revealing heavy losses for the financial year. However, since then the company has launched the new Land Rover Defender, it has opened a huge new facility at Gaydon and announced a partnership with BMW.

The Coventry car maker will continue to invest in the future and as such will still be recruiting for a variety of roles. Jaguar Land Rover has more than 120 roles available in Coventry and Gaydon.

Like the majority of UK based car manufacturers, Aston Martin is focusing much of its efforts on developing electric cars and reducing emissions. Its new factory in St Athan, South Wales is at the heart of its electric vehicle plans, with the recently unveiled DBX SUV set to be the first model. The prestigious automotive manufacturer is also currently hiring for a range of roles in Coventry.


Moving away from the automotive industry, Amazon has two huge facilities in Coventry and Warwickshire, employing thousands of operatives and warehouse staff. With both facilities still relatively new, Amazon are still recruiting for numerous roles.


Both the University of Warwick and Coventry University are benefitting from growing student numbers. The Universities growing reputation has helped attract students from across the UK and overseas. This influx of students has lead to the creation of many jobs across a variety of roles ranging from construction to translation and administration.


With its UK headquarters and a major distribution centre in Atherstone, as well as several stores across Coventry and Warwickshire Aldi is becoming one of Coventry’s biggest employers. With more and more stores popping up, expect to see more jobs created throughout the year.
